Oh well, when it was commissioned I had already been out 7 years. I did get to go on the Nautilus when it was in port one time. That was high tech back in those days when there were mostly diesels tied to the docks.
I was on shore duty there before being sent to a carrier in the South China Sea.
Best Of Luck

I saw the Nautilus in port when I was in Sub School, it was pretty beat by then. I guy in my class had orders to it, but the roumor was that it took 11 hours to surface one time and he said he didn’t think that was cool so he split...My dad was a Navy lifer and we were both Vietnam Era Veterans. He was in country during my High School days…
When others respond to something you have said to them with “that is very wise” or “how did you handle this when you were my age?” You have come to our wonderful world. It could be forty, fifty, sixty and so on but when you can say to yourself “that was a very wise” thought or comment, you have arrived.
I tell my kids “I am a work in progress, I am not cooked, yet.” At 55 I am physically stronger than I was at 25. There is a group of us who are always looking forward to our next adventure. The youngest is 46, the oldest is 66. As all of the previous posts have said, it is not about a number, it is all about an attitude that says, “I absolutely bleeping refuse to quit just yet.”
Hey Red River, you’ve got the right attitude. From the sound of it you’ve got a lot of life left in you. At our age we know more than the young guys and can usually out do them just by thinking it through. Age IS JUST A NUMBER! We are all just WORKS IN PROGRESS. Just keep on doing what you’re doing. Your kids and their friends are looking to you as their Role Model!! Show em what we can still do!!
Happy Holidays to you and the family.
When I turned 52 my wife and I bought ourselves snow skies and learned to ski. When I turned 64 I bought a Gold Wing motorcycle. Three years ago I bought a metal Detector and I treasure hunt in my spare time, of what I have very little. I don’t know exactly when I became an “Old Guy” but I am really enjoying it.

Glad to hear you’re enjoying life. There are so many things we can do out there still and share our wisdom with the next generation. I hope you’re still skiing, that’s something you can do for many years to come. My Dad skied and surfed until he was about 80! So yes, there are many fun days left in your life.
Enjoy every one of them!!
Glad to hear your son GETS IT! Some of the younger generation don’t grab the concept until they’re in the 40’s. Sounds like your son is pretty smart. Tell him to wear it with pride!! Thanks for being a part of our Team. Have a great Year.
Hi guys, just picked up a tee shirt at the flea market in Mesa Arizona and love it. Was thinking about maybe getting more, looked at the label and found this site. Very cool. Have to let my best friend know about this, after his birthday. I am 54 and am a genuine Old Guy. Whenever my friend and I get together at each others home, we get out the Old Guy chairs and enjoy the day with a cold beer. By the way, I call him Pops because he is exactly two weeks older than me. So to all you other Old Guys out there, Greetings from Bethel Alaska.
Just joined the club. Cool concept. I’m 62 and still play hoops with my boys (30, 26, & 20). Of course I change the rules so I can hang with them. Great fun. Being old is s state of the mind. I listen to the “Oldies & Moldies” ‘cause my memories keep me young as well.
Used to live in So. Cal. but have been in deep S. Texas for so long I forgot what real surf looks like! Don’t miss the cost of living or the traffic though.
Wore my OG shirt the other day out to the mall. A young fella asked me what “OG Rules” meant. I told him “it means that we have all the money!” HA! Not true but it shook him up a little.
Just signed in. Great concept. I got my first shirt three yrs ago in Galveston. The young ones in the family now know where to get xmas and bday presents. “OLD GUYS RULE”
Fellas, lost my wife on the 12th. She was killed by a young man speeding and under the influence of drugs. We were married for 34 years..today would have been our anniversary. I thank the Lord for my four kids (32-20 who are with me and a pillar of strength). It will be tough, but He will strengthen me and life will go on.
This is one of those life events that make you feel your age! Just returned from a weekend at South Padre Island with the kiddos. Refreshing time of reflection and thanks for the memories. Just thought I would let you know.
