There are few things as satisfying as taking years of experience and patience to a competetive event and putting the kids in there place. My summer hobby is road racing a formula car, against kid and young men from around the world, who plan on becoming the next formula one star of tomorrow. For those who get it (respect for age & experience) they give me proper racing room and a thumbs up for a well run race. Sometimes they even come over and ask for advice, which I am willing to give to the respectful young racer. I saw your teeshirts for the first time at GI Joe’s in Portland OR. a couple of weeks back, I wanted to get one but all the XL sizes were gone (I wonder why?). Last weekend at Cleveland I qualified 4th, in a field of 30 cars. While I was standing on the false grid looking at the top 10 drivers, it dawned on me that I’m old enough to be the father of any one of these guys. I looked over to my chief mechanic and said “old guys rule”. At the end of the day it felt good to be able to help one repectful driver to earn his first podium position and to earn the respect of another, for a clean and hard fought race.

Hey Still Fast,
I raced motorcycles most of my life; until I almost ended it.  A few months ago, I bought a Modified Midget and started dirt tracking.  We run on a 3.8ths mile clay oval and hit speeds of 120 on the straights.  Naturally, most of the front runners are under 25, but they love having me out there.  I thought those days were over, but they are just starting!  Check my pic in the gallery if you get a chance.

THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKIN ABOUT!  YOU HAVE TO BE OLD TO GET IT!  A FELLOW NEWBIE ASKED EARLIER IF 30 YRS. OLD WAS OLD ENOUGH TO BE CONSIDERED AN OLD GUY ON THIS SITE.  I SAY NO WAY, COME BACK ANOTHER DAY(50+). YOU OBVBIOUSLY KNOW WHAT THE VALUE OF BEING AN OLD GUY IS.  THE RELATIONSHIP YOU HAVE WITH THE YOUNGER RACERS IS OF GREAT VALUE TO THEM.  OF COURSE, THEY WON’T UNDERSTAND THAT UNTIL THEY’RE OLD GUYS.  OBVIOUSLY YOU FELT GOOD ALONG SIDE THAT TRACK WHEN YOU SHOUTED TO YOUR FRIENDS:"OLD GUYS RULE” YOUNG PEOPLE WOULDN’T LOOK TO GOOD DOING THE SAME.  YOU HAVE EARNED THE RIGHT TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT BEING OLD.  OLD GUYS RULE!
