Tom Leonard of Cypress, CA is a mountain climbing machine! He just turned 70 and has conquered multiple mountains by both foot and bicycle, including three of the seven highest summits in the world. At age 67, he climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro (Tanzania). At age 68 he climbed Aconcagua (Argentina) and at age 69 he climbed Mt. Elbrus (Russia). Tom stays in shape by bike climbing Mt. Baldy in Southern California weekly. The trip takes him four hours up and down.
A mere week and a half after his Elbrus climb, with feet not quite healed, Tom decided he wanted to summit Mt. Whitney for the 11th time on his 70th birthday. The day before the climb, he drove four hours to the base of the mountain, slept in the bed of his truck, and set off around 3 am, blazing up the peak faster than ever before. Once at the top, he enjoyed the view for a few minutes and headed back down. He grabbed a quick bite to eat afterward and drove home the same day. Now don't tell me this Old Guy doesn't Rule!
So far, Tom has conquered three of the seven summits and yearns to continue. He has been written about in the OC Register and is currently looking for sponsorship.
This awesome Old Guys Rule story was brought to our attention by Tom's daughter Sandra.
