The Pinecone Drop and other New Year’s traditions.
Sure, you could watch the Times Square ball drop again. Or you could head out to Flagstaff, Arizona to witness the
Pinecone drop, a local tradition since 1999.
What are your plans for welcoming 2008?

Take two.
Christopher Plummer's new movie is out this week. It's about how mentoring helps the young and re-fuels the not-as-young. As Plummer tells his protege in the flick: "Don't worry about getting famous, kid. Worry about getting good at your job."

round up of Uncrate, a neat blog about "man stuff." Just do us a favor: Buy an Old Guys Rule shirt before you empty your wallet on the Douglas Hammers.

Been a long time.
Legendary British rockers Led Zeppelin
played their first gig in over 27 years in London last night. Jason Bonham, son of the late, great John Bonham, played drums. More than 20 million people entered a lottery system for 18,000 tickets.
The original members of the band are all in their 60's.
Welcome back, lads.

Hanging up.
AT&T announced today that they're getting out of the pay phone business by the end of 2008. Guess Superman will have to change in a Starbucks.

Wish list item #2.
Via toolmonger.com -- Why does this
sledge hammer cost $900? Because it meets OSHA and NFPA requirements for use in hazardous, flammable or combustible environments. The only draw back? Wrapping it up will will give away what it is.

Gather ‘round the turducken.
Originating from Louisiana, the
turducken is de-boned turkey stuffed with a de-boned duck, which itself is stuffed with a de-boned chicken, according to Wikipedia. It's a nice mix-up on the traditional Thanksgiving turkey. Plus John Madden is rumored to serve it at his holiday table. There you go.
Happy Thanksgiving from Old Guys Rule.
