We could all use a good laugh for the upcoming Halloween weekend, so we put together a list of 5 funny do-it-yourself Halloween costumes for Old Guys. This list is a trick and a treat...at a minimum it should make you laugh.
1. Carry around a beer all night and wear
this shirt - when people ask, tell 'em you're a case worker.
2. Dress as a woman - specifically your mother...this is especially funny if you look like her. If you're lucky you can borrow stuff from her...if not, do not attempt to borrow things from your wife to dress like your mother...we aren't responsible if you do.
3. Wear your normal clothes, but pin a bag of chips to yourself - when someone asks what you are, say. "I'm all that and a bag of chips."
4. Put on a crown...then everyone will know you're the king of the castle.
5. Don a hat, boots and red handkerchief - do your best to look like The Duke...if you've got one of our shirts, that'll help. Or you could go around saying, "Little Lady" and "Pilgrim."
We hope that you have a Happy Halloween and if you dress up, you'll share your pictures on our
Facebook page, especially if you have some of our gear on as part of your costume. We could always use a good laugh.

1. TV in black and white. Not all of the time, but sometimes when you flip channels and you find a classic, it calls to mind a simpler time. It can take you back to the past. It's unbelievable, but this month marks the 60th Anniversary of Color TV. Doesn't seem possible that it's been that long. The old shows still make us laugh, the actors didn't rely on the bells and whistles, they relied on their raw talent. We didn't watch TVs in every room of the house, we sat down together and watched as a family...seems like that still might be a better way to do it. (Although we must admit, we don't miss the rabbit ears.)
2. A lazy afternoon. We've worked hard and we'll keep working hard, sometimes we play hard, but we definitely appreciate a lazy afternoon. This is made so much easier right now by the extended summer we're having in Southern California. Although, to be honest, it could be cooler. We wouldn't complain...much.
3. True Friends. Life flies by, some friends come and go, but there are those "stick." Those friends who will always be your friend no matter what you do or where you go. We've lost some of those great friends along the way and whenever it happens, you almost can't help but think, "The good die young." Not matter how old you are. Losing some makes us appreciate the ones that are left. As a matter of fact, today is the perfect time to remind our friends what they mean to us.
4. Time. When we were kids, time seemed to drag on and it seemed forever to just get through a day. School years were long, summer vacations were the only thing that seemed to fly. Now, it's different. Time passes so quickly. How is it October already? How is it 2011? It seems like life is flashing before our eyes. Time is a luxury that we don't think we can afford when we are younger, but as we get older we make sure that spend it.
5. Classics - Cars or Bikes. Maybe it's the nostalgic feeling they inspire, but there's not a classic car or bike that passes without us craning our necks to see. Some of us have memories wrapped around a specific car or a bike. Many of us can remember when the cars that are classics now were the "new" models. Others worked on them with our dads and our buddies...some of us still do.

The Old Guys Rule "Badge of Honor" is a term that we have used since our inception. We recently created a special award to honor a life well spent. The Old Guys Rule Badge of Honor Award will be given to one "unsung hero" annually.
The first recipient of this award is Dr. Gus Gialamas. Dr. Gialamas has been leading volunteers on 10-day trips, several times annually over the course of the last 22 years. His team of volunteers performs surgeries on behalf of
Operation Rainbow, which has provided more that 10,000 children with medical care.
The impact of the work of Dr. Gialamas and Operation Rainbow is undeniable. You can read testimonials of some of their patients on the
Operation Rainbow website.
We chose to award the 2011 Badge of Honor to Dr. Gialamas because truly is an unsung hero. He has been performing surgeries for more than two decades and impacting the lives of hundreds of children. We have presented Dr. Gialamas with a few tokens of our appreciation, including a clock, a special Badge of Honor shirt and a donation to Operation Rainbow. We honor his dedication to Operation Rainbow, the lives of his patients and his community.
Old Guys Rule will also be sharing an opportunity to donate to Operation Rainbow. We will have more details on that soon. We will also be sharing when you can purchase the special Badge of Honor shirt for the unsung hero in your life. A portion of the proceeds from the Badge of Honor t-shirt will be donated to the future recipients' charity. This will allow those who wear the Badge of Honor to make an even greater impact and will acknowledge their life well spent.

Who likes to cruise? Old Guys, of course. This weekend, we have the opportunity to cruise for a cure. A cure for a disease that is so important to Old Guys...prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer strikes 200,000 men annually...31,000 of those men will lose their battle with this deadly disease. This number can be reduced with precautionary check-ups. Saturday, September 24th, there will be an opportunity for Old Guys (and young guys) to go cruising, check out some cool cars, and get screened for prostate cancer at the world's largest one day charity custom/classic auto show,
Cruisin' for a Cure. There will be over 3,400 vehicles on display, over 200 vendors and exhibitors and a 1 1/2 mile cruise route.
Cruisin' for a Cure takes place at the Orange County Fair and Events Center in Costa Mesa, CA. We hope to see a lot of Old Guys Rule gear this weekend and we would love to see pictures from the show. If you want more details on the show this weekend, visit
Cruisin' for a Cure.
Even if you don't make it to the show, you can get more information on prostate cancer
here. Please get screened for prostate cancer and encourage the other guys you know to do the same. Old Guys can make a difference in detecting prostate cancer in ourselves and guys we care about.

We like to keep things upbeat and simple over at Old Guys Rule, but somethings just can't be that way. Today, we are reflecting on the tragedy of 9/11. It's hard to believe that it was 10 years ago. The wounds still seem so fresh. Although, there is lingering pain and sorrow attached to those memories, there is also lingering gratitude for the Emergency Responders who jumped in to help save lives.
Not one of those men or women knew what horrors that fateful day would bring, but when tragedy struck they didn't hesitate. Each one jumped in to go above and beyond the call of duty. Even people who were not emergency responders, went to work...possibly inspired by a lifetime of watching Emergency Responders around them. They went into the towers, onto the streets and did what they could. They pushed beyond their limits. Some gave all. We are grateful for their sacrifice.
We want to share our gratitude for the responders on 9/11 and the responders every day before and after that. Each day they face the dangers of their jobs. They put their lives on the line without asking for anything in return. So, for all of the firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel and every person who offers Emergency support...Thank You.
Those two little words hardly seem enough for all that you do. However, there aren't really words that can convey how grateful we are. We count on you every day, thank you for answering the call. We realize that many times the thanks goes unsaid. We want Emergency Responders to know that we appreciate you and we will not forget all you have done and all you continue to do. We tip our hats and raise our glass. Thanks a million from Old Guys Rule.

This weekend is the symbolic end of summer and Monday gives workers a day to be recognized for their hard work throughout the year. There are so many people to thank for everything they do to keep this country running. From the people who deliver our mail to those who transport our food, the people who keep us safe from crime and fire, the ones who ring up our groceries, bottle our beer, fight our fights or heal our wounds. Everyone who works for a living, regardless of their profession, deserves to be acknowledged. It takes all of us to keep things going - even our old guys who are retired should be recognized for the work they've done. We want to say thank you and Labor Day is the perfect time to do that for all of the workers out there.
We feel lucky when we get to sit and take a break, but that doesn't happen a lot in this busy world. We work hard...and hopefully get to play hard. We hope you have the time over the weekend to celebrate the work you've done. Take a break, kick back and enjoy this crazy life that we live. Do something that makes you happy...maybe that means going for a cruise, grabbing your board and catching some waves or just simply sitting and watching the sunset. Savor it...the days are getting shorter, but each one counts. Celebrate Labor Day, your hard work and your life. Have a good one and remember to show 'em how old guys rule this holiday weekend.

Old Guys Rule has deep roots in surfing, so it's great to get back to those roots from time to time. We are excited to share an upcoming Southern California event that will give old guys an opportunity to rule the waves. The Senior Olympics Surf Contest will be held in Huntington Beach at the end of October. This event is open to surfers age 50 and over.
Information on judging found on
http://www.hbcoa.org/senior_olympics.htm includes the following:
Judging Criteria:
"A surfer must execute the most radical controlled maneuvers in the critical section of a wave with speed and power throughout. The surfer who executes such maneuvers on the biggest and or best waves for the longest functional distance shall be given higher scores."
Judges Look For: Wave selection, maneuvers, fluidity and style.
We've got enough style, speed, power...bring on the waves.
Even though this event is more than two months away, we're already dreamin' of the smell of the board wax, the ocean spray in our face, and the feel of the board beneath our feet. If you want to hit the beach and show your skill that day, registration just opened and is required. Click here for more information. Don't forget to take pics and share them with us here or on facebook. We love to see Old Guys Rule.

Over at Old Guys Rule, we're feeling very "smart" these days. Especially as we launch our new collection featuring Albert Einstein. The collection will be available on our website tomorrow, August 19th. There are three great Old Guys Rule T-Shirts featuring Einstein and famous highlights. This collection is available exclusively online until September 1st. Interested in a sneak preview...
- The first shirt features Einstein on a motorcycle. It celebrates the energy that this amazing Old Guy brought to the world. His tireless pursuit of science and the development of his theory.
- The second shirt in the collection features Einstein in a way you have never seen him before. He is carrying a surfboard and wearing a hawaiian print shirt...we call this one "Surfstein." It features a famous quote by Einstein, "The pursuit of truth and beauty is a sphere of activity in which we are permitted to remain children all our lives."
- The last shirt in the collection, it's pure genius. So genius in fact, that we simply have Einstein's face and the phrase "Pure Genius" - there is no doubt that Einstein was exactly that.
We think that he would have liked the way we have made tribute to him through this collection. Additionally, we know he would have been thrilled with the fact that a portion of this collection's proceeds are donated to ensure access to quality education for thousands of students, and to fund cutting edge scientific and medical research benefiting people around the world. This was certainly an Old Guys Rule type of guy...he lived, he learned, he loved and he educated others until his death at age 76. Old Guys Rule extends our Badge of Honor to this genius old guy and we are proud to feature him in this collection.

At Old Guys Rule, we are always thinking about what our customers might like to see next. We look at the feedback that our customers share with us and we also work together internally to come up with new ideas. We are really happy to share what you are going to see over the next several months.
We have a new face that will appear on the Old Guys Rule shirts later this month. It's pure "genius" to feature this guy. He's known for his Theory of Relativity and his shock of white hair...we are proud to feature Albert Einstein. Although, as always, there is an Old Guys Rule twist and you'll see Einstein in a new way.
Also, later this month, Old Guys Rule will be featured on two episodes of the Emmy winning HBO series True Blood. We feel pretty cool to appear...just goes to show, Old Guys Rule Hollywood (and everywhere, in our opinion). Yes, we know that's not a humble thing to say, but hey, we Rule.
There will be a few new characters featured in the coming months...one shirt will feature three funny guys and another will feature a different Duke. We don't want to give it away yet, but those are huge clues. We are also doing great things in our community and we will be honoring some Old Guys who are doing the same. We'll be sharing more about this very soon. Until then, keep ruling!
